The Hermitage of the Most Holy Saviour was founded in 1585 on a hill (485m) from where one can enjoy a wonderful view of Naples, of the Bay and of the Sorrentine Peninsula. For 400 years it was occupied by the meritorious Camaldolite monks founded by Saint Romualdo. With their holy life as hermits and coenobites, they left an ascetic and mystic mark which still attracts to this place men, women and especially young people in search of the sacred. The monastic complex answers to the XVI century architectural canons of late Renaissance typical of the Campania area. The baroque church contains paintings and frescoes of important XVII century artists like Luca Giordano, Massimo Stanzione, Andrea Mozzilli and Federico Barocci. The church is open for cult and the Sisters invite all those who want to participate with them in the Mass, prayer (Divine Office), adoration of the Blessed Eucharist and spiritual meetings. They offer hospitality all the year round to single persons or groups independent of age, creed and nationality. Their principal aim is to create a cultural and spiritual centre where every person or group of persons may find harmony with oneself, with God and with the brethren. Besides the old main guest-quarters, with spacious rooms overlooking the Belvedere, there are also 16 cells with the kitchen gardens of the monks, which have been thoroughly renovated: These cells, all with toilet, shower, telephone and central heating, offer an atmosphere of peace and serenity. The building has two dining rooms, a meeting-place and a reading room, a library, and a conference room easily accessible by a lift.
